17 Days Uganda Sudan Wildlife and Cultural Safari

After your early morning breakfast, you will embark on an amazing hiking experience to the three waterfalls in Sipi Falls. The hike takes about 3-4 hours, depending on your level of fitness. After viewing all three falls, you will head back to the lodge for lunch, and later transfer to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve.

In the regions of northeast Uganda, you will find Pian Upe Wildlife, a beautiful area that has continued to attract eco-travelers from across the globe. This conservation area covers a total of 2,788 square kilometers and is known to be the second-largest conservation area, after Murchison Falls National Park, located in northwestern Uganda.

You will then have an evening game drive and later check in at the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast, you will embark on a beautiful morning game drive in Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. On any chosen track, you may encounter a variety of wildlife, including large mammals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, and several species of antelope, including roan antelope and Jackson’s hartebeest. You will have lunch en route and later proceed to your accommodation for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast, you will embark on a visit to the Ike Tribe. The Ik, sometimes spelled Icetot, are an ethnic group indigenous to the northeastern part of Uganda near the Kenyan border. Most Ik people are subsistence farmers, and they live in small clan villages, known as odoks, in the area surrounding Mount Murongole in the Kaabong district. You will have lunch and later proceed to the Karamoja Homesteads. In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Kidepo Valley National Park through Kotido, where you will visit the largest Manyattas in East Africa. In Kotido, some of the biggest Manyattas can accommodate hundreds of people. The layout of these settlements often features huts arranged in a circular or semi-circular fashion, with a central area used for communal activities such as cattle keeping and cultural ceremonies. The structures themselves are built from natural materials like wood, grass, and cow dung, reflecting the Karamojong’s semi-nomadic pastoralist lifestyle. You will then proceed to your accommodation for dinner, relaxation, and overnight.

You will wake up early in the morning for a game drive with a packed breakfast, which you will have in the bush. A game drive into Kidepo Valley National Park will be an exhilarating safari into the remote wilderness, where you’ll have the chance to view a variety of lions, elephants, giraffes, and the rare ostrich.

Scenic park landscapes include the Narus Valley and Mount Morungole, while over 470 bird species have made it a haven for birdwatchers. It has fewer crowds, promising a peaceful and adventurous experience.

Game drives in the early morning or late afternoon offer the best opportunities for viewing wildlife near water sources. You will head back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation, then later prepare for the evening game drive.

After your early morning breakfast, you will head out for an early morning game drive. On the designated track, you will be able to see a variety of animals, such as buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, and various bird species. You will enjoy lunch and some relaxation before preparing for an evening community experience. During this experience, you will visit different Karamojong groups, including the Jea and Tepeth, among others. Head back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay

After your early morning breakfast, you will have a drive to Gulu, where you will relax, have lunch, dinner, and overnight in Gulu town. You will check in at African Roots Hotel Gulu for a wonderful evening.

Wake up to your early morning breakfast. You will be transferred to Nimule Border, which is a 1.5-hour drive from Gulu Town, located along the Kampala-Juba Highway, a key route between Uganda and Sudan. After a border check, you will proceed to Juba, the capital city of South Sudan. Later, continue to your accommodation for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Mundari Cattle Camp. The Mundari Tribe is an ethnic group primarily located in South Sudan near the capital Juba and along the River Nile. They are part of the Nilotic people and are known for their pastoralist lifestyle, with cattle being central to their culture, economy, and social status. The Mundari people practice traditional animist beliefs. You will have a relaxing evening, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

After your morning breakfast, you will enjoy a full-day community experience with the Mundari people. You will learn about their traditions, marriage customs, how they dress, their cultural dances and beliefs, and participate in various cultural activities with the locals. Later, you will have dinner and spend the night.

After your early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Torit. The Torit region in South Sudan is home to the Otuho (or Lotuko) people, a cultural group primarily residing in the area. The Otuho tribe is known for its strong agricultural practices and the cultivation of crops like millet and sorghum. They live in the hilly areas around Torit, the capital of Eastern Equatoria state. You will check in at the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

Early in the morning, you will transfer to Laarim, a small village in South Sudan, located in the Eastern Equatorial region. It is situated near the Kidepo Game Reserve, close to the border with Uganda. The area is characterized by its savanna landscape, where agriculture is the primary occupation for the local communities. Laarim has a rural setting with basic infrastructure, and the nearby national parks and wildlife reserves add unique ecological significance to the area. You will later enjoy dinner, relaxation, and overnight accommodation.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will transfer to the Toposa Tribe, located at the border of Ethiopia and Kenya. You will visit the Toposa Traditional Market. The Toposa Tribe is a semi-nomadic pastoralist community known for their cattle herding. They inhabit the Greater Kapoeta region in Eastern Equatoria. The Toposa have a rich cultural heritage, with a deep connection to livestock, which plays a central role in their social and economic life. Cattle are considered a symbol of wealth and are used in dowries, trade, and rituals. The tribe is also known for its unique beadwork, scarification practices, and strong warrior tradition. You will check in at the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast, you will drive from Kapoeta to Toposa Village (Koteen) for an amazing cultural experience with the Toposa Tribe. You will learn about the history of the Toposa Village and its people, experience their traditional dances, and gain insights into their cultural practices, including their food, marriages, education, and more. In the evening, you will head back for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay.

After your early morning breakfast, you will have a drive to Kapoeta. This is a small area located in the Eastern Equatoria state, near the border with Uganda. It is a rural community known for local agricultural activities and traditional ways of life. You will have lunch en route, then check in at the accommodation for dinner, relaxation, and overnight.

You will check out of the lodge after your early morning breakfast. You will have an option of a flight back to Juba and exit, or you will drive through Kidepo Valley National Park to Uganda from Kapoeta.
