The 11 days safari visits two countries (Uganda and Rwanda). It includes two gorilla tracking sessions, one at Volcanoes National Park and the other at Bwindi. Also, you will hike the Sabinyo Mountain at Mgahinga, do game drives at Queen Elizabeth & Akagera National Parks and the chimpanzees at Kibale Forest.

Day 1- Arrive at Kigali

Today, you arrive at Kigali International Airport and you will be met by your guide. He will brief you about the tour and transfer you to your hotel for an overnight.

Day 2- Kigali to Akagera National Park (Boat safari and short evening gamedrive)

Having had your breakfast at the hotel, you’ll spend a little time in the Rwandan capital, including a visit to the Genocide Memorial and a few other city attractions. After you’ll be driven east in your own 4WD through rolling hills and small farms with bananas and tropical fruit growing on the side of the road. It’s a beautiful drive, usually arriving at Ruzizi Tented Lodge on the shores of Lake Ihema after around three hours. Should you wish to stop, however – perhaps to take photos or to visit a village – just chat to your guide about the options. This is very much your trip. You will do a boat safari on Lake Ihema and a short evening game drive.  Meals & Drinks: Breakfast, lunch & Dinner

Day 3-Another day in Akagera National Park

To make the most of Akagera, and increase the chances of the Big 5 at the park, we shall have 2 game drives on this day (In the morning and evening). It is considered to be one of the most scenic parks in central-eastern Africa, Akagera’s extraordinary biodiversity ranges from impressive herds of herbivores that graze the open plains to rare and elusive birds that frequent the swamps. Following lion and rhino reintroductions, Akagera now boasts thriving populations of these, as well as elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and leopard, while the waterways teem with hippo and enormous crocodiles, however the populations of the major draw cards haven’t grown so big for easy spotting, so we have this night to increase our opportunity to see the big 5.

Day 4- Drive to Volcanoes National Park and visit the Gorilla Guardians’Village

From here, leave for Volcanoes National Park. You’ll head north-west for about three hours – though should you wish to stop, perhaps in a local village, do discuss the options with your guide. The drive takes you through lush hills and bustling market towns to the peaks of Volcanoes

National Park, where mountain gorillas, golden monkeys and glittering birds occupy the Virunga Mountains. You will check in at your lodge, and later visit the village where you will be taken through the different practices of the Rwandan Culture.

Day 5- Gorilla tracking and cross to Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is a magical experience, transcending any other wildlife encounter we know. Meeting a gorilla family in their forest home, led by a dominant male silverback and a cluster of females and young, is a natural adventure that fully repays the cost in unforgettable memories and images. Your driver-guide will operate your transfers to the park headquarters and introduce you to your trekking group and parks guide. Track gorillas and when your return, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of Dian Fossey, learn about the history and future of gorilla conservation in Rwanda before crossing to Uganda.

Day 6- Mt. Sabinyo Hike and drive to Ruhija-Bwindi

A round trip to Sabinyo is about 14km round trip. The mountain has 3 peaks and the route to last peak is along the steep ridge that looks into the Sabinyo gorge. The mountain is the most strenuous of all the three. Its third peak is at 3669m and it is shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and D. R. Congo. After summiting the peak one can be in 3 countries because about a meter walk takes you to another country.  After breakfast, we shall carry packed lunch and head to park offices, where we shall get a guide and ranger to the forest after the return we shall head to Bwindi.

Day 7- Second Gorilla tracking and drive to Ishasha (QENP)

After an early morning breakfast, and with your picnic lunch, we’ll take a short drive to the  park offices for briefing. We will meet the excellent local guides and trackers who give a talk on  the etiquette of gorilla trekking. We’ll then hike into the forest to a spot where gorillas were seen  the previous night and track from there. Trekking may take anything between 1 to 6 hours,  depending on the location of the family and altitudes which is in excess of 7500 feet. Once you  find the gorillas, you spend with them one full hour. You will later have a transfer to the lodge at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 8- Game drive at Ishasha and afternoon boat safari on the Kazinga Channel

After your breakfast you will be taken to Ishasha Sector, famous for the tree climbing lions lounging in the tree branches while keeping a close eye on herds of Uganda Kob, their favorite prey. You could have a chance to spot some tree climbing lions after proceed to your lodge. In the afternoon you will take a Boat Cruise along the amazing Kazinga channel to see, at close range, the water animals to include Hippos, Buffalos, Crocodiles and elephants bathing on the channel banks. There is also a variety of bird species on the water banks especially the famous Shoebill, pelican and Jacana. Later get back to the lodge for a relaxed evening plus dinner and overnight.

Day 9- Morning game drive at Kasenyi and drive to Kibale Forest

After breakfast you will take packed lunch and head for a another rewarding game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to increase your wildlife animal view counts and see Africa’s highly famed “Big 5”, Bush Bucks, Giant Hogs, Antelopes, Waterbucks and plenty of birds. Later in the evening you will be transferred to Kibale Forest National Park famous for Chimpanzee trekking and also referred to as the “Primate capital of the world” as it’s a habitat to not only Chimps but also other primates as you will encounter them during the treks. Later check in at the lodge for a relaxed evening plus dinner and overnight.

 Day 10- Chimpanzee tracking

After breakfast head to Kibale Forest. The activity begins at 8.00 am with a briefing of the rule for trekking the chimpanzees after which you set off to search for them in the forest. Kibale Forest National Park, it boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including the chimpanzees. Approximately 5,000 chimpanzees live in the wild in Uganda, which makes it a perfect place to spot them! An experienced ranger will take you chimp tracking in the morning. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will spend an hour with them and then head back to the accommodation for Lunch. Post Lunch you will be taken for Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk. This is a guided swamp walk that takes you closer seeing primates mostly monkeys, birds and butterflies. The wetland is a birder’s paradise with about 138 species and is best known for being home to the Great Blue Turaco. Later get back to the lodge for a relaxed evening plus dinner and overnight.

Day 11- To Entebbe and exit

Start the day with breakfast, and check out for a drive to Entebbe. The drive is amazing through the tea plantations, and amazing landscape of the country. Arrive in Entebbe late afternoon, relax and visit some craft shops before you head to the airport for your exit flight.Meals & Drinks: Breakfast & lunch (Dinner not included)
